Blessed Sisters refute split rumours

Gospel music group Blessed Sisters have denied parting ways following rumors that the three siblings; Peace Benedata, Rebecca Barinda Niyitegeka, and Dorcas Ashimwe, are no longer together as a band.

Founded in 2008, the group is popularly known for songs like Arahamagara, Mu Buzima, Luka, and Gir’intego, among others, and were among the winners of the 2010 Groove Awards.

However, they went silent in 2016 after releasing a video of their song called ‘Our Father’. Then Ashimwe, one of the trio, began releasing her own songs and performed at different concerts.
Meanwhile, at the end March, Niyitegeka also released a new song dubbed ‘Akira Amashimwe’, which loosely means ‘receive thanks', bringing about speculations that the group has split.

In an interview with The New Times over the weekend, the group president Niyitegeka denied the rumor, noting that the group even plans to release a new song soon.

“We are still together as Blessed Sisters, it is just that we are all living in different countries and cannot connect easily as we used to. We are actually planning to release a new song this year,” she explained.

Niyitegeka resides in France, while Benedata lives in Belgium. Ashimwe is the one living in Rwanda at the moment and has released a couple of songs since 2016, including ‘Your love’, ‘I surrender’, and ‘Forgive’.

“Being a group doesn’t mean one of us cannot record songs solo, whenever we feel like. We believe that God who began a good work in us as sisters will bring it to completion,” Niyitegeka added.

Speaking on the inspiration behind her new song, Niyitegeka said that it was inspired after seeing the mighty work of God.

“After seeing the wonders of God in my life and the life of those surrounding me, and the beauty of His creation, I got inspiration to proclaim His goodness with hope that the song can also uplift the souls of many who may feel frustrated in these hard times,” she said.

The lyric video of the song is in four languages; Kinyarwanda, French, English, and German. According to the singer the official video is in the works.
