UPENDO MINISTRIES is a ministry dedicated to educating and encouraging the masses through praise and worship songs. Members compose their songs to connect people with God through their music. In 2007, Upendo released their first song, at a time when they were a church choir. The choir launched their first album dubbed ‘Mfite ibyiringiro’ a year later. In 2019, they welcomed new members from different churches to make it a ministry.

In a live interview , Aimable Rutabara, the leader of Upendo ministries said that the current members are the ministries’ third generation since 2007. They are now over 50 members and are based at Restoration Church at Kimisagara. “We recently released our song dubbed ‘Songa mbere’ that gives hope although it’s not easy especially during this pandemic. We have to focus on what the gospel tells us to do and be. We do not go to church like we used to but that does not mean we stop praying and reading God’s Word in our homes.

‘The feedback that we got from five songs that are already out was amazing and it encourages us to keep giving people songs that help them. Two of the five songs have their videos and we hope to release four more songs that will also be featured on our second album. Not to forget also that ‘Wamenyekera’ and ‘Hejuru y’abami’ videos will be out soon”, said Rutabara.

Some of their most loved songs includes ‘Wa mwenda’and ‘Hejuru y’ abami’. Last month, they released a song with its video dubbed ‘Umujura’.

“The message God gave us in the new song ‘Umujura’ is to urge people to stick to their Christian values. It is important for every Christian to be firm and avoid being separated from God because the devil wants to tempt Christians.

Rutabara added that as a ministry, they will strive to promote Rwandan gospel music and asked for support throughout their music career.

Gospel musicians under All Gospel Today (AGT), a gospel team that includes pastors, have released a song that calls on Christians to obtain covid-19 protocols. The song features 12 renowned artists such as Aime Uwimana, Gaby Kamanzi, and James & Daniella, among many others.

The tune which was recorded at Wavelab Studio follows an all-star song that was released last month with the same aim of giving people a sense of relief in this pandemic.

Fabrice Nzeyimana one of the artists featured in the song said that the Covid-19 pandemic is of national concern to everyone including the Church which is why a number of Gospel musicians have decided to collab on a song that comforts people in these hard times.

“Through this song, we show that it is absolutely Biblical to protect ourselves and others during a pandemic. God, Himself asked lepers to isolate outside the camp during Moses' time (Numbers 5:2)” he said.

Nzeyimana, who is also the writer of the song, added that gospel artists want people to know that they support the efforts of the government in the fight against Covid-19.

“The measures are taken by the government help all of us to keep safe. We should not distort the Word of God and try to interpret everything negatively. Those who have Christ know that he also offers the assurance of eternal life that cannot be taken away by a vaccine," he said.

The song calls on all Rwandans, especially Christians to observe the guidelines given by the Ministry of Health and especially get vaccinated to help keep our country safe since this is not the first or last vaccine that people are taking.

The song dubbed ‘SIndohoka’ was released on September 10, at 8 pm on two youtube channels HM AFRICA and All Gospel.

Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. Ephesians 6:10–11, NIV

Lord God, we thank you that it is your will to strengthen us through your presence, through Jesus Christ, the leader of your cause, who is and remains victor among all on earth. Our souls need strength and our hearts need confidence so that in our time we can draw near to you and to your kingdom. Bless us with the Holy Spirit whenever we begin to grow weary. Your Holy Spirit can give us the strength to believe and hope, the strength to see the salvation that is coming to give joy to all the world. Amen.

He said this when asked if the current situation was not frightening him and he replied that it was a difficult and frightening time, starting with covid-19 and other issues.

"It simply came to our notice then. We are afraid of it but above all on top of all the problems the world has, the problems we have in Rwanda as a country there is a God, I believe that I do not fail God, God knows everything and is above all, so when I started to have that fear I immediately remembered that I was a Muslim, I am not an apostate I am not a person born in a religion that probably worships idols or non-existent things... I was born in a religion that worships the one and only God, so I do not remember it as if I were praying in my heart a little bit helps me "

"Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe."

John 4:48

A craving after marvels was a symptom of the sickly state of men's minds in our Lord's day; they refused solid nourishment and pined after mere wonder. The gospel which they so greatly needed they would not have; the miracles which Jesus did not always choose to give they eagerly demanded. Many nowadays must see signs and wonders, or they will not believe. Some have said in their heart, "I must feel deep horror of soul, or I never will believe in Jesus." But what if you never should feel it, as probably you never may? Will you go to hell out of spite against God, because he will not treat you like another? One has said to himself, "If I had a dream, or if I could feel a sudden shock of I know not what, then I would believe." Thus you undeserving mortals dream that my Lord is to be dictated to by you! You are beggars at His gate, asking for mercy, and you just need to draw up rules and regulations as to how he shall give that mercy. Think you that he will submit to this? My Master is of a generous spirit, but he has a right royal heart, he spurns all dictation, and maintains his sovereignty of action. Why, dear reader, if such be your case, do you crave for signs and wonders? Is not the gospel its own sign and wonder? Is not this a miracle of miracles, that "God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him might not perish"? Surely that precious word, "Whosoever will let him come and take the water of life freely" and that solemn promise, "Him that cometh unto me, I will in no wise cast out," are better than signs and wonders! A truthful Saviour ought to be believed. He is truth itself. Why will you ask proof of the veracity of One who cannot lie? The devils themselves declared Him to be the Son of God; will you mistrust him?

Today's Prayer

September 02, 2021

Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses; in beatings, imprisonments and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger...through glory and dishonour, bad report and good report; genuine, yet regarded as impostors; known, yet regarded as unknown; dying, and yet we live on; beaten, and yet not killed; sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything. 2 Corinthians 6:4–5, 8b–10, NIV

Dear Father in heaven, you are always near to us on earth, and we thank you for all the love you put into our lives so that we can be joyful, even in all kinds of temptations and struggles. How much you have given us and how often you have rescued us from distress! Again and again, you have let the light of life shine out. You give us light not only for the moment but also for the future, enabling us to draw strength and assurance from the present, the past, and the future, to the glory of your name. Amen.
